L.A. County Supervisors Approve $51M for Affordable Housing at 7220 Maie Avenue in Florence-Firestone
A proposal from Meta Housing Corp. to redevelop the site of a car wash next to the A Line's Florence Station in unincorporated Florence-Firestone moves closer to reality, following a vote taken by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
On October 17, the Board voted to adopt a resolution approving the issuance of up to $51.3 million in multifamily housing mortgage revenue notes for the construction of the Metro @ Florence Apartments, which would rise at 7220 Maie Avenue. That money would go toward the construction of a new seven-story building featuring 160 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments reserved for households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income level. A total of 72 units would be furnished and set aside as permanent supportive housing.
The Metro @ Florence project would also include approximately 12,300 square feet of open space for residents, 3,100 square feet of ground-floor retail, and 2,100 square feet of community and office space. Amenities would include a community room, an outdoor courtyard, a rooftop deck, and parking for 120 vehicles.

The vote by the Board of Supervisors comes just over one month after the California Strategic Growth Council awarded $30.8 million for the project - part of $187 million granted to Los Angeles area affordable housing developments through the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities program. The state money will cover the cost of on-site supportive services, laundry facilities, outdoor recreation areas, and the purchase of nine zero emission buses.
L.A. County recently approved $21.4 million in funding for another Florence-Firestone affordable housing development - an 85-unit complex now taking shape at 2111 Firestone Boulevard.
The Metro site sites east across Maie Avenue from AMCAL's 109-unit Florence Apartments, another affordable housing complex recently built on the former site of the Florence Library.
