Washington 722 TOD is a mixed-use, transit-centric 55-unit affordable housing development located in South Los Angeles.
The project and the accompanying neighborhood assets, created as a result of the development, provide tenants and the surrounding community with infrastructure and resources that facilitate economic, social, and emotional well-being. Not only does Washington 722 TOD deliver high-quality affordable housing directly adjacent to the Metro San Pedro Street Blue Line Station, but the Project further engages with the neighborhood’s rich cultural history through two large community-inspired murals by renowned artist El Mac.
In partnership with AFSC’s Roots for Peace Program and All Peoples Community Center, a vacant ancillary parcel was reimagined into the Corazon de la Gente community farm, which serves to increase community access to healthy foods, improve neighborhood wellness, and address racial and economic inequity.
Washington 722 TOD exemplifies transformative development that is only possible through working with community leaders who have both a deep knowledge of the needs and opportunities of an area, as well as the trust of its community members.
The uniquely designed project also incorporates a hybrid model of new construction and rehabilitation of an existing industrial building built in the 1940s.
